?️ RCD & Safety Switch Installation Perth

An RCD (Residual Current Device) — also called a safety switch — is the single most important electrical safety device in your home. It monitors the flow of electricity and cuts the power within milliseconds if it detects current leaking through a person or faulty appliance. Without one, a dodgy toaster or a kid poking something into a power point could be fatal.

WA law requires safety switches on all power and lighting circuits in rental properties, and we strongly recommend them for every home. If your switchboard still has old ceramic fuses or no RCD protection, you’re living without a seatbelt.

⚡ What We Install

Power Circuit RCDsProtects your power points — where most electrocution risks come from (appliances, chargers, tools).
Lighting Circuit RCDsCovers your lights and ceiling fans. Required for rental compliance in WA.
Dedicated Circuit RCDsSeparate protection for high-draw appliances like ovens, hot water systems, and pool pumps.
Switchboard UpgradesIf your board is full of old rewirable fuses, we’ll upgrade the whole lot to modern circuit breakers with RCD protection.

? Signs You Need RCD Protection

  • Your switchboard has ceramic fuses instead of circuit breakers
  • You get a mild tingle or shock from appliances or taps
  • Your RCD trips frequently — could indicate a wiring fault
  • You’re selling or renting out your property (mandatory compliance)
  • Your home was built before 2000 and hasn’t been upgraded

❓ Safety Switch FAQs

What’s the difference between an RCD and a circuit breaker?

A circuit breaker protects your wiring from overload and short circuits. An RCD protects people from electrocution. You need both — they do completely different jobs.

How often should I test my safety switch?

Press the test button every 3 months. It should trip instantly and cut the power. If it doesn’t, call us — the mechanism may have seized up, which means it won’t protect you when it matters.

Why does my safety switch keep tripping?

Usually a faulty appliance leaking current. Try unplugging everything and resetting the RCD, then plugging things back in one at a time. If it still trips with nothing plugged in, you likely have a wiring fault — give us a call.
