Hard Wired Smoke Alarm Installation

πŸ”” Hard-Wired Smoke Alarm Installation Perth

Western Australian law requires working smoke alarms in every home. If yours are more than 10 years old, chirping at 3am, or you’re selling or renting your property β€” it’s time for an upgrade. We install hard-wired, interconnected smoke alarms that meet current Australian Standards (AS 3786:2014) so every room hears the alarm when one goes off.

Our dad Tony has been doing this since before smoke alarms were mandatory. Between him and the rest of the crew, we’ve fitted thousands of units across Perth β€” from brand new builds in Baldivis to 1960s weatherboard homes in Mt Lawley that still had the original battery units from the 90s.

🏠 What the Law Requires

If you’re selling or leasing a property in WA, you need interconnected, mains-powered photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and living area. Battery-only units no longer comply for property transfers.

Key WA Requirements:
  • Photoelectric type (not ionisation) β€” fewer false alarms from cooking
  • Hard-wired to mains power with battery backup
  • Interconnected β€” when one triggers, they all sound
  • Installed in every bedroom plus connecting hallways
  • Replaced every 10 years (check the manufacture date on the back)

❓ Smoke Alarm FAQs

How many smoke alarms does my house need?

Under current WA law, you need one in every bedroom, every hallway connecting bedrooms, and at least one on each level. A typical 3-bed home usually needs 4–5 units.

Can you install them without cutting into my ceiling?

Hard-wired alarms do need a small hole for the wiring, but we patch and paint where needed. For heritage homes, we can use wireless interconnect models that only need a power point nearby.

My smoke alarm keeps going off when I cook β€” is it faulty?

Probably not faulty, just the wrong type. Ionisation alarms are notorious for kitchen false alarms. We replace them with photoelectric units that respond to smouldering fires but ignore your burnt toast.

How long does installation take?

A typical 3-bedroom home takes about 2–3 hours including wiring, testing, and cleanup. We’ll have you compliant before lunch.
