Hard Wired Smoke Alarm Installation

LEGISLATION
As a bare minimum, a smoke alarm installation must be fitted in the hallway closest to the bedrooms. If you live in a typical Australian 4 by 2 where the main bedroom is separate from the secondary bedrooms – then you will require two smoke alarms installed.

It is also recommended that you install interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms where possible. This means that when one smoke alarm detects a fire that all the alarms go off. Smoke alarms should be mains powered with battery back-up – but sometimes it’s not possible to install one. Typically this happens when you have a concrete ceiling where there is no hidden space to run the electrical wiring.
